Hong'en Temple Forest Park is a green hilltop escape close to central Chongqing. Its focal point, Hong'en Pavilion, pairs ornate traditional-style architecture with broad views across the modern city. Come in late afternoon to walk through the park in daylight, catch the changing sky, and stay for the illuminated pavilion and night skyline. The terrain is hilly and some entrances involve steep climbs, so the arrival route matters as much as the route inside the park.

Our verdict: One of Chongqing's strongest free alternatives to the busiest night-view landmarks, especially for photographers, families and visitors who want greenery, architecture and skyline views in one relaxed outing.

Suggested route

Easy sunset-to-night circuit

2–3 hours

East Gate 1 → Osmanthus Trail → Hong'enfang → Hong'en Pavilion → viewing corridor. A 16:30 arrival gives time for daylight, sunset, blue hour and the illuminated pavilion without rushing.

Balance blue hour and pavilion lighting

The blue hour and lighting schedule may not overlap. The photographer combined a blue-hour exposure for sky and shadow detail with a second exposure after the pavilion lights came on, then stacked multiple frames to remove people from the forecourt.
